Which sunscreen to use?

Summer is surely around the corner! During this time, you are already planning your next beach escapade. However, you are probably thinking of what is the best sunscreen to use.  I will be reviewing Nivea´s sunscreen line. You´ve got a lot of options but we got to break it down in terms of SPF and product type e.g. lotion, spray, and aerosol.

The most important thing to consider is Sun Protection Factor or SPF. SPF is a metric used to tell us how well a sunscreen can protect our skin from harmful UVB rays. UVB rays cause skin cancer, sunburn, and is known to damage skin if exposed to it for a long time. Gone are the days when we think that getting the highest SPF is the best. As a general rule, sunscreens with really high SPF e.g. SPF 100, do not offer better or greater protection than SPF 30. We are often misled that the higher the SPF the better it can protect our skin. The key is reapplying the sunscreen after 2 hours or so. SPF 15 filters out 93% of UVB and SPF 30 filters out 97% so that´s only a slight improvement. Even if you put on SPF 100 and after a few hours you don´t reapply it then it isn´t worth it.

I have here three sun care products from Nivea. The first one is Swim and Play sun lotion. It claims to have SPF 50. This product is ideal for kids because it is formulated to last long when they are swimming. It has a water resistance formula and developed for children´s delicate skin. If you have kids this is the ideal product for you.

The Nivea Sun Protect and Bronze comes in SPF 20 and 30 variants. This is ideal for daily use. The lotion has light consistency and it is absorbed easily without the greasy feeling that most sunscreens have. I feel that my skin could still breathe and I don´t get the usual uncomfortable sweaty sensation.

Lastly, we have the Nivea Sun Invisible Protection Transparent Spray. This is my personal favorite amongst the sunscreen mentioned. The best part is that is comes in a spray bottle. It is the easiest to apply and the one that smells the best too! The only downside is that it can feel a tad bit greasy but this goes away as soon as your skin absorbs it.
